Why I Became A Financial Advisor

| June 05, 2019

Why did I become a financial advisor? It’s simple; I wanted to have an impact on people’s lives. Money, and how much or little you have, can significantly affect your quality of life. It determines what options are available to you, drives your decision-making, and can give you either security or headaches.

Early on, I recognized that proper financial management was something many people struggled with, either because of lack of time or lack of information. I pursued this career wholeheartedly because in helping people with their money, I was helping them with the rest of their lives too.

Starting Out

After studying finance at the Metropolitan State University of Denver, I started my career by working for several large investment firms, including Shearson Lehman Brothers and Kemper Securities. While there, I began to develop my own investment and financial planning philosophy, one based on objectivity and discipline, with room for personalization.

With this drive to offer clients an unbiased approach to serve their investment needs, I founded Setchfield Asset Management as an independent advisory firm in 1996. It’s been over 20 years now, and there’s been no looking back!

What I Do Today

Today I am the founder and chief investment strategist at Setchfield Asset Management. I work one-on-one with clients to create a comprehensive wealth management plan, addressing a myriad of financial issues, concerns, and milestones. My main goal is to help my clients stay out of trouble when the markets are volatile, using risk-adjusted strategies to achieve prudent growth. Everything I do is based on relationship. I can provide the highest quality of information, service, and products to help you reach your goals because I take the time to know and understand you and your financial circumstances.

Challenges And Triumphs

No job is without its challenges. For me, those challenges come in the form of the pressures of running your own business. I juggle many tasks throughout each day while still focusing on my clients, and it can be difficult to get everything done and be efficient and organized as well. Thankfully, my team is fantastic at what they do, and together we offer excellence at every turn.

Struggles aside, I love my job. I love getting to know people, learning what makes them tick, and seeing them succeed. I work hard every day because I know how important money is. My clients trust me with their money, and I don’t take that trust lightly.
